Rochester Lilac Festival 2019

by Maria on June 6th, 2019

It has been a cool, rainy spring, so it was a pleasure to finally have a nice sunny day. At the start of the parade, it was cool enough that most of us layered our short-sleeved uniform shirt with a long-sleeved shirt. By the end of the parade, we were plenty warm enough.

A unit in front of us and several units behind us did not show up. That meant we were close to the band in front of us and even closer to the band behind us. Fortunately, the band behind us allowed some space. Since we could hear both bands, we tried to time our playing so that we didn't interfere with the other two bands.

At left, Matt H. and Tom J. display their trumpets. Tom J. was playing his new red trumpet for the first time. It matches the red shirt perfectly!
The Lilac Parade Committee encourages purple and floral decorations and accessories. At right, Irene is wearing a purple long-sleeved shirt, Maria pinned flower leis to her sousaphone, Tara is wearing a floral lei, and Kim is wearing a purple ribbon in her hair.

Bob K. and Kristen carried the banner. We had Irene and Tara on flute, Kim on clarinet, Steve on alto sax, Matt H. and Tom J. on trumpet, Scott M. on trombone, Maria on sousaphone, Don S. on snare drum, Andy on bass drum, and Theresa on bells.

Our next event is the Caledonia Memorial Day Parade. See you there!
