Hilton FD Parade 2018

by Maria on July 27th, 2018

We marched again with the Kendall/East Battalion Fire Departments. Last Friday in Kendall, we were the first band at the front of the parade; today we were the very last. That gave us plenty of time to play through several songs to figure out which one sounded the best without trombones and tenor saxes. We decided on Rocky Mountain Way.

Since there were no trombones, Cindy played the trombone part on the alto sax. Experienced musicians know that they can take a bass clef part, such as trombone or tuba, add three sharps and read it as though it were written in treble clef.

When we got to the beer tent, we joined forces with The Mark Time Marchers to play a few songs that we have in common: Land of 1000 Dances, Gonna Fly Now, The Stripper, and Armed Forces Salute.

For woodwinds, we had Kim, Kelly and Allie on clarinet, Margaret on alto sax, and Cindy playing the trombone part on alto sax. For brass, we had Doug and Mike B. on trumpet and Maria on sousaphone. For percussion, we had Theresa on bells, Scott M. on snare drum and Steve on bass drum.

Our next event is the Dewey/Stone Family Fun Night on Tuesday, July 17. See you there!
