Cal-Mum Memorial Day 2017

by Maria on June 2nd, 2017

The weather reports all warned that there would be scattered showers on Memorial Day. Sure enough, just before the parade started, there was a brief downpour. Then the sun came out, and it became warm and humid. Not the most comfortable weather for marching, but certainly a worthy cause for a parade.

Angelina and James carried the banner. For this hometown parade, we invite family members to march along. Angelina's younger sister, Maddy, and James' younger brother, AJ, marched between the banner and the band. Peyton carried the American flag and Nikki carried a gun for the guard.

We welcomed two new members: Cindy on alto sax and Sue on trombone. We had some good news. Harold and Emily had a baby girl, Eva, last Friday. Don H. played his "new" acquisition: a 120-year-old helicon. It's a slightly smaller version of a sousaphone.

There was a whole row of flutes - Irene, Tracey, Tara and Elise - and a whole row of saxes: Margaret and Cindy on alto sax and Jack and Maria on tenor sax. Marcia and Kelly played clarinet.

It was nice to see Art up and about and playing trombone. This was his first parade since he broke his ankle back in March. Other trombones were Scott M. and Sue. Scott W. and Doug played trumpet.

Kevin played snare drum, and Steve played bass drum. Andy and Nancy played cymbals.

During the ceremony, we played Armed Forces Salute. Tyler played Taps and Scott W. provided the echo. Then Kelley's Heroes and the CMCS High School Band joined together and played The Star-Spangled Banner.

Our next event is the York Fie Department Parade this Friday, June 2. See you there!
