Clifton FD Parade 2016

by Maria on August 13th, 2016

This is another one of our favorite parades for two reasons. First, children from Clifton attend Caledonia-Mumford school. Since we started as the Caledonia FD Band, and since many of us still live in Caledonia or have Caledonia connections, we consider Clifton to be part of our community. Second, we marched with our friends in the Chili FD. So, we marched with one set of friends in a parade organized by another set of friends. You can never have too many friends.

And it got even better! We had a good turnout, including two new marchers: Jack on tenor sax, and his nephew, Matt, on trumpet. It was also good to see a few members who haven't been able to make many events this year: Art, Anya and Tim. Nancy and TJ carried the banner. Kristen played cymbals.

A few days before this parade, we had received an email from Steve, who used to play bass drum with the Heroes. He sent an old photo that he had found of us marching in a parade at least 23 years ago. Steve made sure to spend  some time with us in the beer tent. It was good to see you, Steve!

Scott announced to the band that Allie had won the annual Tim Kelley Heroes Scholarship. Allie has been playing clarinet with us since her junior year, which is the minimum age for joining Kelley's Heroes. Allie will be majoring in music education at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Good luck, Allie! If you attend Caledonia-Mumford High School and want to know more about the scholarship, click on Scholarship at the top of this page.

There are only a few events remaining on our schedule. Our next event is the Autumn in the Village Parade in Livonia on September 10. See you there!
