Penfield Independence Day Parade 2016

by Maria on July 22nd, 2016

This was a new adventure: our first appearance in the Penfield Independence Parade. Everything was very well organized and there were many parade workers to answer questions and give directions. We marched in front the Wegmans contingent, and they graciously offered us bottled water. Thanks, Wegmans!

At 1.9 miles, the parade was a little longer than the average parade, and after the review stand, it was all uphill. However, the route went 3/4 of the way around the block, so we ended up close to where we started and didn't have to walk very far to get back to our cars.

As we were walking down the driveway, one of the parade workers asked us to play. Scott wasn't expecting that we were going to play until we reached the street so he didn't have his drum sticks in hand. As the whistle blew, he quickly grabbed his sticks to start the street beat. and dropped one. After a good laugh, he regained his composure - and his stick - and started the street beat.

Angelina and James carried the banner. Kristen carried the American flag and TJ carried a gun as its guard.

After the parade, Tom and Kristen invited us back to their home for a barbecue. They are great cooks and had ribs and pulled pork ready for us. Everyone brought a dish to pass and it was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thanks, Tom and Kristen!

Our next event is the Chil-E Fest on Monday, July 4. See you there!
