Buffalo St. Patrick's Day Parade 2016
by Maria on March 22nd, 2016
It wasn't quite as warm as the Rochester parade last week,, but it was still quite pleasant. The temperature was in the 40s and there was just a little bit of a breeze. All of us were wearing our turtlenecks and most of us were wearing thermal underwear, but our instruments were functioning well and we were comfortably warm, especially while we were marching.
We marched with the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). This started many years ago with Brian's Uncle Bill. Brian doesn't march any more and Uncle Bill is usually in Florida, but our relationship with AOH continues. We had 14 on the street, which was pretty good considering that it was Palm Sunday, and several of our members had church commitments.
Ironically, Krissy, who attends Buffalo State College, was not able to march with us because the college was on spring break and she was home on Staten Island. Elise and Margaret covered the flute and piccolo parts. Marcia and Mel played clarinet. Mel's daughter, Libby, marched with us. Libby is a cellist, so we're going to have to find another way for her to fully participate, possibly in color guard. Steve's shoulder was feeling better, so he played his sax.
Pully and Bob played trumpet. There were no trombones, but Maria's tenor sax part is similar, so that part was covered most of the time. Don H. played sousaphone. Percussion parts were covered by Don S. on snare, Jon on bass drum, Andy on cymbals and Theresa on bells.
Our next event is the Cal-Mum Youth Baseball Parade on April 30. See you there!
