2015 Ornament

by Maria on January 1st, 2016

Two years ago, Kelley's Heroes launched a series of Christmas ornaments. The first featured instrument was the valve trombone; the second featured instrument was the bass drum.

This year, our third ornament features the snare drum, which plays the street beat for the entire parade. We have a fairly sophisticated street beat, and it was written by Stephanie, one of our "retired" snare drummers. Our current snare drummers - Scott M., Tim, Don S., and Chris F. - work hard to stay in sync for the duration of the parade.
All snare drums have wires, or snares, stretched across the diameter of one drum head. The snares vibrate when the drum head is struck, producing a bright, snappy sound. Older snare drums were large and heavy to carry, but today's snare drums are smaller and lighter than their predecessors.

The flat acrylic ornaments are 3" inches in diameter. For a suggested donation of $5, you can start your own collection of Kelley's Heroes ornaments.  If you would like this one or any of the ones from previous years, send us a message by clicking on Contact on the navigation bar at the top of this Web page.
