Brighton Community Homecoming Parade 2014
by Maria on September 23rd, 2014
The Brighton Community Homecoming Parade is always a lot of fun. It's a short parade, but the entire route is lined with a very large and enthusiastic crowd. We marched on the street to Monroe Avenue, where we stepped out of the parade and continued to play until the school groups marched past us. Then we stepped back into the parade and finished marching to the middle school. When we reached the end of the parade, a group of students chanted "One more song!" until we obliged by playing a spirited rendition of Splish, Splash while they danced around us.
We welcomed a new flutist, Elise. Elise recently graduated from high school and wanted to continue playing her instrument, so she joined Kelley's Heroes. If you're interested in becoming a member of our band or color guard, click on Join at the top of the page, fill in the boxes and submit. Also on the Join page is a link for Frequently Asked Questions.
Don H. was continuing his recovery from his motorcycle accident, and Josh was on a business trip, so Maria played sousaphone. Mike B., Karen L. and Bob made sure all the trumpets parts were represented. Steve drove over an hour from his work in Fillmore, and he just made it with a few minutes to spare.
Now that summer is over, the marching season is drawing to a close, but there are still a few great fall events on our schedule. Come see us at the Roberts Wesleyan College Homecoming Parade on Saturday, September 27.
