Clifton FD Parade 2014

by Maria on August 3rd, 2014

Clifton is part of the Caledonia-Mumford community and we usually march with the Clifton FD for the Spencerport FD parade. So, even though we did not have a fire department to march with for the Clifton parade, we still wanted to march to show our support of the Clifton FD and the Clifton community.

As we arrived in Clifton, it was sprinkling and there was vivid lightning to the north. Irene and Karen reported that they drove through quarter-sized hail on their way to Clifton. However, the rain quickly passed and the parade took place under cloudy skies. Heavy rain earlier in the week left some of the parking area soggy, and several people were concerned that they might get stuck on the way out. As far as we know, everyone made it out.

At the beer tent, we set up next to the Pittsford band. Their leader, BJ, invited us to join them in playing Happy Birthday to Steve Kindred, the director of the Rush Marching Band. Happy birthday, Steve!

We had a whole row of flutes: Irene, Karen G., Heidi and Tracey. There would have been five, but Margaret was doubling on alto sax. The baritones had 100% attendance: Larry, Anya and Pully. Emily debuted her new cymbals with scalloped edges.

We found out that we took second place in Hilton for both band and color guard.

Liz and Candy invited us to their home afterward for pizza and wings. They have a huge garden and sent everyone home with their choice of yellow squash, zucchini and cucmbers.

This coming week we have two events: the National Night Out/Dewey Avenue Festival on Tuesday, August 5, and the Hamlin FD Parade on Friday, August 8. See you there!
