Mendon FD Parade 2014

by Maria on June 13th, 2014

This is always a good parade and carnival, and it's our one opportunity to march with our friends in the Bushnell's Basin FD. It was a beautiful night and we had a good turnout. The only rough spot along the parade route is climbing the hill after the judging area. It's difficult to play through there, so our percussion section usually plays a simple Dead Man Walking cadence and we improvise something easy like In Heaven There Is No Beer. Spectators sang along with us.

Tim Henry's daughters did a great job carrying the banner. That freed up Nancy to carry the NYS flag and Emily to play cymbals. Tom's wife, Kristen, carried the American flag and their children, TJ and Kayla, carried rifles to provide the guard. Rounding out our front line, Tara's son, Peyton, carried a Kelley's Heroes flag.

Steve came to the parade straight from work. That's no easy task for him considering that he was in Spencer and had to drive almost two hours to get there.

As we were walking to our cars, we heard Kelley's Heroes' name announced twice. We assume that means we won two prizes, but we haven't heard yet what they were. I'll let you know when we find out.
