Cal-Mum Memorial Day 2014
by Maria on May 27th, 2014
We had another big turn-out: 26 band members and several family members. Some children of band members marched along: Anglina, James and Zach. Angelina also helped Nancy carry the banner. Tara's daughter, McKenna, brought what has affectionately become known as our canine unit: Petunia and Attila were outfitted in red, white and blue neckerchiefs and walked behind the band.
Both Don and Josh were in attendance to play sousaphone. Art played trombone for the parade, but couldn't stay for the ceremony. Harold couldn't play trombone for the parade but could play for the ceremony. He couldn't march because he was driving his 1942 Ford GPW with WWII veteran Stan Rychlicki as his passenger. Stan served as a navigator on a B-24 "Liberator" bomber in the Pacific theater.
The high school band director, Matt Trost was not feeling well, so Arnie marched along with the school band. During the cereomy, they played You're a Grand Old Flag. Tyler, Aaron and Jacob played Echo Taps and both bands - the school band and Kelley's Heroes - joined together for The Star-Spangled Banner.
Our next parade is Saturday, May 31, when we'll be marching In Mendon with the Bushnells Basin Fire Department. See you there!
