Rochester Lilac Festival 2014

by Maria on May 16th, 2014

It just doesn't get any better than this! The weather was perfect, the band was big, we sounded great, and we entered the camera area playing the best part of Battle Hymn Finale.

Earlier in the week, the long range forecast called for Saturday thunderstorms. The storms arrived a little early and ruined some Friday plans, but Saturday was perfect. The good weather brought out a huge crowd and a big band. We had 27 people on the street, including 6 trumpets - Mike B., Mike W., Bob, Tom, Liz and Candy - and 5 clarinets - Marcia, Kim, Kelly, Karen R. and Camille. Music choices very greatly depending on which instruments are present, and 27 instruments present a lot of options.

We welcomed a new member, Camille, and rewelcomed a former member, Jen. Jen didn't realize we had changed uniform shirts since the last time she played with us, and she showed up in our former uniform shirt. Liz's niece, Hannah, carried one end of the banner and Nancy carried the other end. Josh proudly debuted his new metal sousaphone, and Karen R. played her purple clarinet. We were loaded with strong baritones - Anya, Larry and Pully - so Maria played cymbals.

Our next parade is Monday, May 26, for the Cal-Mum Memorial Day Parade. See you there!
