Rochester St. Patrick's Day Parade 2014
by Maria on April 6th, 2014
There are only a couple of occasions for which Kelley's Heroes is willing to abandon their usual red and black uniforms, and St. Patrick's Day is certainly one of them. It's a day for shamrock socks, green gsweatshirts and all things Irish.
We welcomed, Nancy, a new member to our color guard. She carried the banner along with Tara's son Peyton. Tara's daughter, McKenna marched along with Petunia and Attila, the family dogs. Petunia, who is normally white, was dyed green for the occasion. She was a real hit during the parade as surprised spectators smiled and gasped, "Look at the green dog!" Attila, who is black, showed his Irish spirit by wearing a green moustache.
The weather wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been for the wind. Nancy's cowgirl hat blew off, but she was able to catch it before it went too far. A bigger gust of wind blew Irene's derby hat away down the street. Fortunately, Emily, who was playing tambourine in the back row, was able to chase it down.
Our drummers deserve special recognition for this parade. Tim was the only snare and Andy was the only bass. They kept an energetic beat going throughout the entire parade. Tim's wife Amy and Ben's fiance Heather marched along and took pictures.
Those of us who can't get enough marching band will do this again tomorrow for the Buffalo St. Patrick's Day Parade.
