Brighton Community Homecoming Parade 2012

by Maria on September 21st, 2012

Many of Kelley's Heroes live in Caledonia, and for some of us tonight was our first encounter with the new diverging diamond traffic pattern at the I-390, I-590 and Winton Road intersection. We were there just in time for the 5 pm rush hour traffic, and everything seemed to be flowing smoothly, so I'd have to say the new traffic pattern is working well.

The parade was great thanks to excellent planning. Kudos to to the parade committee! Everything was clearly marked and everyone was pleasant and helpful. It was a pleasure to be part of the festivities.

Kelley's Heroes was the only band, and the committee asked us to do something a little different tonight. We started marching near the front of the parade and stepped out at Triangle Park at the intersection of Elmwood and Monroe. We stayed there and continued playing through the rest of the parade. There was quite a crowd gathered in this area, and they appeared to be enjoying our music. As different groups marched past, they were moving to the beat of our music. Then just before the last police car, we stepped back in line and finished marching to the soccer field.

Rex and Matt carried the banner. One of our former members, Larry R., was at the parade as a spectator and came over to say hello. Poor Tricia! She couldn't play tonight because her clarinet was stolen - for the second time this season. At the beginning of the season, she was borrowing a clarinet from Jamie and it was stolen from her car. Aunt Gail lent Tricia another clarinet, and this week that one was stolen from her apartment.

Our last event of the regular season is a concert tomorrow at the LeRoy Village Green Skilled Nursing Facility. After that, we begin rehearsals of Christmas music as we prepare for our November trip to Toronto for the Santa Claus Parade and our December Hometown Holidays Parade in Caledonia. See you there!
