Rain, Rain, Go Away!: York FD Parade 2012
by Maria and Harold on June 2nd, 2012
Rain, rain, go away! Come again another day! Preferably on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday without a parade.
Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather. The parade at York on June 1 was a real soaker. It was raining while we were lining up, then it stopped while we were marching. The crowd was sparse until we got into town, and Liz only blew the whistle when we had an audience to play for. When we got to the beer tent, it poured. We stayed under cover at the beer tent and played to a very appreciative audience. Still, this was a step above the year we played in York during a tornado warning; the sky was a very scary yellow.
Before the parade, there was a little drama with parking. Harold, Rex and Pully parked behind the York Presbyterian Church. A parade official told us to park in the back of the parking lot, and then we were told to move to the grass. Apparently, the guy who owned the grass wasn't in on the plan, so he came over and told us to move farther down on the grass. Once we finally got situated, we took a long walk in the rain to our line-up position.
